Can not install Reporting Services, Help!
I'm running Windows XP and SQL Server Developer Edition (sp3) and I'm trying
to install the MS SQL Server Reporting Services that is in the MSDN of April
2004. I also have Visual studio.net installed.
So when I run the CD all goes well until you specify the database for the
reporting server and then I get the following error:
"This edition of the Report Server Database is not supported on the edition
of SQL Server 2000 you have chosen. Please choose on that matches the
requirements."
MS Requirements are SQL 2000 Standard, SQL 2000 Enterprise, and SQL 2000
Developer edition.
What does this mean, any comments or feedback will be greately appreciated.
- SergioI would verify that you are running the developer addition. You can do that
by running this SELECT statement on your XP machine:
SELECT SERVERPROPERTY ('edition')

Can not delete database. Gives Error 21776. Suggestions please?
I just installed MS SQL 2000 SE then SP3 on Windows 2000 Server. I
then backed-up a database from another MS SQL 2000 server and restored
it. After the restore, I noticed not all my tables were there, so I
decided to just do an import instead of restore. So I'm now trying to
delete the restored table, but I get the following error:
Microsoft SQL-DMO:
Error 21776:[SQL-DMO]The Name 'Accounting Database' was not found in
the Database collection. If the name is a qualified name, use [] to
seperate various parts of the name, and try again.
This is causing all sorts of problems now. Is there a script or
something I can run that will remove this database 100%? I want to
start clean, but use this same DB name. If I have to do this
manually, what tables in what database do I need to modify? And why
does Microsoft make this so difficult?
Thanks,
Alex.Hi Alex,
From Query Analyzer , Login as SA and execute the below command ,
sp_helpdb
From the result set , cut and past the Accounting database name along with
the below command,
drop database <paste the dbname>
Thanks

You need to wrap the database name in brackets since it has a space in the
name. Or you can right click on the database in QA and drop it, provided
that there are no connections.

Can not connect to SQL server 2000 on windows authentication mode
Hello everyone,
We have SQL server 2000 on windows 2000. From our desktop MS Access was connected to database through ODBC. Since yesterday (after our consultant had updated another asp application in the same server) we are getting “SQL Server Error: 18452. ….. Login failed for user ‘(null)’. Reason: not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection. “
The consultant saying he did not touch any settings on server (?). And the problem is even server’s security property shows it has mixed mode authentication. But I cannot connect to server even through my SQL server enterprise manager in windows authentication mode. I can connect if I use SQL server authentication. Through ODBC I can connect also and test fine, if I use SQL authentication. But the Access application wouldn’t connect using SQL authentication in ODBC.
So, can any one help me to find out what else could be done to make sure that the server is going to accept windows authentication. I’m thinking any other settings or registry change … etc. Please help.
Thanks
You are getting the error during the communication with the Web Servcie, right ? Then you probably changed the Security of the ASP application to not allow Integrated authentication. Are you using an asp or an ASP.nET application ?HTH, jens K. Suessmeyer.
http://www.sqlserver2005.de|||
Hi Jens,
No our web service is fine. We are trying to connect through ODBC and SQL enterprise manager.
|||Hi Taposh,
Did any of the security settings on the SQL Server itself changed? (ie. was some Windows user account access removed from SQL security settings?) You can verify this by using Enterprise manager and login using "sa" and expand the server; expand Security, and then click Logins.
Unfortunately, there are a few scenarios in which you will receive an 18452 error back from the server. Some of the typical scenarios include; missing login rights for Windows users; client and server on different domains (Kerberos trust issue).
Please have a look at http://blogs.msdn.com/sql_protocols/archive/2006/12/02/understanding-kerberos-and-ntlm-authentication-in-sql-server-connections.aspx
I would also recommend searching on the web using the error message as the key phrase.

Can not connect to SQL Server
I installed SQL Server 2005 (server and client components) on Windows Server 2003 with SP1. I can connect to this sql server from any other machine. However, I can not connect from this machine to sql servers on other machines. I have tried named pipe and TCP/IP. Neither of them works. The error message is can not establish connection. Any suggestion?
Thanks,
What is the exact error message ?HTH, Jens Suessmeyer.

What are you passing in as the server name to Management Studio?
You can connect several ways
http://localhost/reportserver
servername

What are you passing in as the server name to Management Studio?
You can connect several ways
http://localhost/reportserver
servername
servername\instance
|||I passed both the servername and the servername\instance to the management studio.
My IIS and uses port 80. I can access Reportserver, report manager and report bilder thru the Internet. I just can not connect to Report server from Management studio.
I will try connecting to RS is Management studo using http://localhost/reportserver.

Indeed, I am very interested in disvoering the answer. We had a developer in our organization with the same problem and could only connect by enterting http://localhost/reportserver. The DBA team is fine using servername\instance.
Is this a bug that will be resolved?

If you want to use machine\instance to connect Management studio.
You need to make sure in rsreportservice.config, element <UrlRoot>http://localhost/reportserver</UrlRoot> is correctly configured. (You can test this by visit this url)
I guess, the machine\instance will eventurally be translated to the <UrlRoot>. If the <UrlRoot> is not correct, then you will not be able to use machine\instance to connect report service.

I had the same issue, what I did to fix is goto C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\Reporting Services and ensure that the ASPNET user has read,read&Execute and List Folder security permissions applied to all the subdirectories also ensure that you click the 'Advance' button when applying the permissions to ensure the security settings are applied to all child objects. sqlCan not connect to MS SQL server 2000 with Windows XP
connect to MS SQL Server 2000? If so, can someone explaine? I have tried
using SQL Server Authentication but I get an error saying server does not
exit or access denied. I tried using the SA account and that does not work
either.
Thanks,Yes you should be able to . One gotcha is that XP Home always
authenticates as Guest.
Create a Test ODBC DSN to get a better error message if you can't connect.
Check the OS error number.
Example:
OS Error 10061 = Connection Refused. Server is not listening on the socket.

sqlCan not connect to database
I am new to windows apps in .net 2.0. I am trying to create a windows service that will connect to a database and email info out to people that have had status changes.
Right now, I can not connect to the database. Here is the connection string:
Private cnnAsNew SqlClient.SqlConnection("Data Source=IPAddress;Initial Catalog=TheServer;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=userid;Password=password provider=SQLOLEDB.1;connect timeout=3600")This is how I am trying to connect:
cnn.Open()
myCMD.CommandTimeout = 0
dr = myCMD.ExecuteReader
I keep getting an error message that I can not be logged on. I know that the credentials are correct because I use them for the web app. Something has to be wrong with my connection string, but what?
Thanks,
enak
Seehttp://www.connectionstrings.com for examples of properly formatted connection strings. You do not need the "provider" parameter, and if you did it should be separated from the other parameters by a semicolon (not a space).If you are still having trouble you should post the exact error message (or better yet, first search the forums or Google for that error message).|||Took out the provider and it worked. Can not conenct to MSDE with VB.NET 2003
First i appoligize for my english but I'm from Belgium
Second, this is my problem:
I installed a Server on my Server PC (Windows XP Professional)
setup SAPWD="mypwd" INSTANCENAME="MSDESERVER" DISABLENETWORKPROTOCOLS=0
SECURITYMODE="SQL" TARGETDIR="C:\MSDEINSTALL" /L*v C:\MSDELOG.TXT +
Enter
Works perfect, then I attached a database to it
osql -E -S peter-developer\VA3+ ENTER
EXEC sp_attach_db @.dbname='VA2005',@.filename1='C:\test\VA2005.mdf',
@.filename2='C:\test\VA2005_LOG.ldf' + ENTER
This works, and in vb.net i can connect to it with
"Data Source=PETER-DEVELOPER\va3;Initial Catalog=VA2005;Integrated
Security=SSPI;"
But when i try this from i remote PC (Windows XP) I get an error that
says: SQL server does not exist or access is denied
I searched almost everywhere and i can't find the answer.
EXTRA information
With svrnetcn.exe a set Named pipes, TCP/IP and NWLINK IPX/SPX to
enabled
I put the firewall of, and the firewal of the router is off
Please help me
How do you connect the MSDE from the remote computer? Via an application
with the same ConnectionString as you showed? If yes, that means you are
using Windows security to connect to the MSDE. Is the remote computer on the
same domain network or peer-to-peer network? If it is domain network, you
need to have a SQL Server login created in MSDE that maps to the domain user
account used on that remote computer, or the user logged on to that remote
computer is a domain admin.
Since your MSDE's SQL Server security is enabled, you could specify user
name and password in the ConnectionString (i.e. using SQL Server security,
instead of Windows security). More important thing is to do a bit more study
on SQL Server/MSDE security.

In the setup, you indicate that the instance name is: "MSDESERVER", yet in
the connection string you are connecting to: "PETER-DEVELOPER\va3".
Do you have a second instance named [va3]?
Shouldn't you use the instancename [MSDESERVER] in the connection string if
you want to connect to that instance?

Sorry i copy pasted somethings from the installation board but this is
how it is
setup SAPWD="mypwd" INSTANCENAME="VA3" DISABLENETWORKPROTOCOLS=0
SECURITYMODE="SQL" TARGETDIR="C:\VA3" /L*v C:\MSDELOG.TXT +
Enter
Then attaching the database:
osql -E -S peter-developer\VA3+ ENTER
EXEC sp_attach_db @.dbname='VA2005',@.filename1='C:\test\VA2005.mdf',
@.filename2='C:\test\VA2005_LOG.ldf' + ENTER
Sorry for that mistake.
The 2 computers are in the same worgroup, and when i typ
\\peter-developer I see the server PC and I can get files from it or
drop files on the PC.
I want to connect to the VA3 server with a VB.NET 2003 application and
i do it with following connection string
"Data Source=PETER-DEVELOPER\va3;Initial Catalog=VA2005;Integrated
Security=SSPI;"
Doesn't work
"Data Source=PETER-DEVELOPER\va3;Initial Catalog=VA2005;Integrated
Security=SSPI;User ID=sa; Password=pass"
Doesn't work
"Data Source=PETER-DEVELOPER\va3,1433;Initial Catalog=VA2005;Integrated
Security=SSPI;User ID=sa; Password=pass"
Doesn't work
"Data Source=Peter-developer\VA3,1433;Network
Library=DBMSSOCN;Integrated Security=SSPI;Initial Catalog=VA2005;User
ID=peter;Password=peter"
Doesn't work ether
You say something about making a new user, I don't understand that,
could you explain it again please
|||You do not need to combine both "Integrated Security=SSPI" AND "User ID=sa;
Password=pass".
It is EITHER "Integrated Security=SSPI" OR "User ID=sa; Password=pass".
