Hi
I have installed .net framework 1.1 and .net web matrix from 'sams teach yourself asp.net' CD. I installed MSDE from the same CD, its not giving any error, but at the end it does not promt to restart the computer, even after restarting I can not see the MSDE icon in the system tray, also I dont see MSDE in the add/remove programs in control panel.I installed sql2kdesksp3.exe from www.asp.net/msde/, but the same thing repeats.

1. Shld I install the sql2kasp3.exe(Analysis services companents) and sql2ksp3.exe(Databasre components) also?

I am new to asp,It will be helpful if somebody can tell me how to install MSDE.

ThanksHere are step-by-step instructions. Try going over them again in case the machine didn't install it properly:

http://www.asp.net/webmatrix/guidedtour/Appendices/installMsde.aspx|||Hii

Thank You|||Yeah, follow the directions here to reinstall:
http://www.asp.net/msde/default.aspx?tabindex=0&tabid=1|||Hi
I tried by installing from tht site, to install it again it takes another 8 to 10hours as I use dialup connection.Cant I download the missing file separately?|||The files you point to are Service Pack 3 files for SQL Server 2000. You need this file to patch MSDE with SP3: Sql2kdesksp3.exe

Check out the SQL Server and MSDE Service Pack 3a update page:
http://www.microsoft.com/sql/downloads/2000/SP3.asp

You may be able to order on CD, or at least download the correct file.|||Thanks a lot for answering me, I am downloading it again from the given site, if the same problem repeates then I'll buy the Cd.
Does SQL server 2000 and MSDE work the same way?

Thank you.|||Pretty much. MSDE doesn't have all the high-end features that SQL Server has, nor does it have a graphical interface designer like Query Analyzer or Enterprise Manager.

Can mirroring be implemented using SMO.

I wanted know that is it possible to implement mirroring in C#.NET framework using SMO (I need specifically a web applicaton). which willl provide a naive user the facilities integrated in SSMS. I am using VS.NET 2005 and SQL Server 2005 SP1.
Thanks and Regards,
Adii

Can you please clarify your question.

Database mirroring is a feature provided in "SQL Server 2005 SP1". Can you please elaborate what you mean by "implementing" it?

|||Thanks Sanjay,
I wanted to know that are there any classes or APIs provided, so that I can programmatically achieve mirroring in my application. Does SMO namespace can provide any assistance in this? Please do let me know if you know or find some solution for the same. I have SQL Server 2005 SP1 installed, but I don't want to use SSMS for doing mirroring. I want to provide this facility in my application to the user programmatically.|||I too am very interested in this answer. We are looking to automate some of the setup and configuration and it would be nice to be able to use SMO or some other exposed APIs to do it with.

can messages be sent to a wcf endpoint from t-sql?

we've gotten this to work from sqlclr and understand the dependence wcf has on the framework but still feel compelled to ask if somehow t-sql can send a message to a wcf endpoint without getting sqlclr involved. I've moved this question over here from the t-sql forum.

From pure T-SQL; no.

Can I use MS SQL Server Express 2005 in Visual Studio 2003?

I have been experiencing troubles since I was decided to install SQL Server Expr 2005 in my PC, first I needed to remove the .NET framework 1.1 in my computer because it is suggested before installing sql server expr 2k5 that cause my vs.net 2003 to stop loading because sql express runs in .NET framework 2.0 and vs.net 2003 is in .Net Framework 1.1 then what I did is to install .Net Framework 1.1 in my PC together with .Net Framework 2.0 and my vs.net started runnning again.

My problem now is when I try to connect to a database using Data Link Properties in the Server Explorer it says "[DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen](Connect()).]Sql server does not exist or access denied." how could this happen if I can see the sql server in the Server Explorer in my VS.net environment?

Please somebody help me I am just learning to this language and I think I cannot proceed to the next few chapters remaining because of this.

Thank you very much!

Hi,

I dont think that having .Net 1.1 framework is the problem.

There is some other problem in the SQL 2005 installation or in the system.

Try this link too

|||hi kingcobra thank you for spending time for your feedback, maybe I can add you to my windows msgr list as one of my friends I would like to use my windows messenger exclusive for individuals who are specialized in computer and if ever you are the first to be included.thank you friend.

Anyway I removed my sql 2k5 express and installed the old MSDE 2k A I havent tried it yet but there is an icon in my windows taskbar says running \\"My server"\"My instance" - MSSQLServer. thank you friend|||

The issue is not the .Net Framework 1.1, in fact, you must have the .NET Framework 1.1 installed in order for VS 2003 to function, which I think you discovered.

The problem is that the designers in VS 2003 are not compatible with SQL 2005, they only support earlier versions of SQL, i.e. 2000. This was a design decision and is caused by structural changes in the SQL 2005 database format. You can still connect to SQL 2005 programatically from within a program written using VS 2003, but all of the UI designers will be non-functional. At this time, only the VS 2005 designer work for SQL 2005.

Your options to get working designers are:

Move to the VS 2005 environment

Download SQL Server Management Studio Express Edition

|||Sir Mike:
