Can Not add new data file to the primary File group- SQL Server 20
I am trying to add a new data file (7th one) to a database on SQL Server
2005
The existing 6th file has autogowth set to grow by 100 MB
When I try to add 7th file to make it autogow by 100 MB on a drive which
more than 300 GB I get the following error
Could not allocate space for object 'sys.sysfiles1'.'sysfiles1' in database
'SomeDb' because the 'PRIMARY' filegroup is full. Create disk space by
deleting unneeded files, dropping objects in the filegroup, adding additional
files to the filegroup, or setting autogrowth on for existing files in the
filegroup.
I tried using T-SQL and also management studio I get the same error
Any advises will be appreciated.
Thanks
KiranAutogrowth is set to 100MB but how about Restricted File Growth?
I think it is set to Restricted File Growth = some_value
Please check out your Database's Properties and Files from options and check
if above mentioned value is set correctly or not.

FYI, I see space available under database properties when viewed from
management studio is 0 bytes
Is this preventing addition of new files ? ( Just a guess?)
Thanks

Can Management Studio Express manage SQL 2000?
Yes, it can. I've suggested that people set this up when the non-Express version wasn't available and it works beautifully. Well, almost. The only thing I know you need to look out for is generated SQL scripts. Sometimes they aren't compatible with SQL Server 2000. That's the only thing I've run into, tho.
Hope this helps!

Can I write SSRS 2008 reports to run on SQL 2005 SSRS?
Is it possible to write SSRS 2008 reports to run on an existing SSRS 2005 server?
If yes, what do I need to do to be able to write SSRS 2008 reports on my developer PC that will run on the SQL 2005 Server (which also has SSRS 2005 installed on it)?
I installed Visual Studio 2008 beta on the development PC and it appears that it needs SSRS installed on it too. So I installed SQL 2008 SSRS (SQL Server Reporting Services) and SQL 2008 Workstation Components onto the developer PC. Next I run the SQL 2008 "Reporting Services Configuration" tool. When I click on the "Web Service URL" section it hangs indefinitely and I have to force it closed.
The developer PC is Windows Vista Business.
Any suggestions on making this work, or any other information that you can think of that would allow me to use Visual Studio 2008 and the SQL 2008 "Report Designer Preview" tool to develop SSRS reports that will run on the SQL 2005 SSRS server?
Thanks!

Hi Erik,
SQL Server 2008 Reporting Services questions can be posted to the new Katmai forum.

To answer your question, RS 2008 reports do not run on an RS 2005 server. The 2008 designers will not output 2005 RDL, so you won't be able to do this.
Hope that helps,

|||For a lack of response I attempted it anyway. (Tried it before the 1 response came in.)
Installed Visual Studio 2008 on the development PC and the SQL 2008 Reporting Services peice on the Development PC.
Attempted to use the Reporting Services Configuration tool to point it to the SQL 2005 SSRS server and it hung, but after numerous attempts it ended up upgrading the SSRS 2005 SQL database so that the 2005 SSRS would no longer work correctly. The SQL 2005 server was all fine, but the actual Reporting Server databse was "upgraded" and wouldn't work with SSRS on the SQL 2005 SSRS server.
To fix it I had to go into the Reporting Services Configuration tool on the 2005 SSRS server and create a new database. After that it worked again. Of course since it was a new database, none of the reports I had on there before were listed in the new database. But I didn't have to "re-install" anything to get SSRS working again...just had to configure it on a "new" database.
Hope that helps someone.

Can I pull the data to an existing table?
Thanks,
JustinRDA doesn't keep track of incremental changes from the server. If you want to update the client with new changes from the server, RDA requires that the table at the client be dropped and re-created via pull.

Can I populate an existing table from inline function table data?
d
from an inline function table. An external app uses the data from the inlin
e
function table in a form. I need to be able to update that data also in a
form, so I need to populate an existing table with the same data. Yes, I
could write an sp and some code, but I am just checking if there is a way to
grab the data from the inline function table to place in the existing table.
I tried Insert Into in the function - which it said is not allowed.
My issue is that the function takes a lot of arguments (10 args). From the
form, all I have to do is say
Frm.Recorsource = "Select * from dbo.f_data(" & strArgs & ")"
It would take way more code to do the same thing with an SP and 10 Params.
Is there a way to grab the inline function table data?
Thanks,
RichAre you saying that you cannot use an inline function as the source for a SE
LECT which is the source
for an INSERT? This is not what I am seeing:
USE tempdb
GO
CREATE TABLE a(c1 int, c2 int)
GO
CREATE FUNCTION f()
RETURNS TABLE
AS
RETURN(
SELECT 1 AS c1, 11 AS c2
UNION ALL
SELECT 2 AS c1, 22 AS c2
)
GO
INSERT INTO a(c1, c2)
SELECT c1, c2 FROM f()
GO
SELECT * FROM a
